Dining in O'ahu

Dining in Oahu

Whatever your taste, Oahu has something delicious in store for you. From five star dining to neighborhood dives, the islands fare is eclectic, innovative and even affordable.

While you're out exploring, be sure to sample some of O'ahus local specialties: in Kahalu'u, on the Windward Coast, get pastels from  the roadside vendors (they're like Puerto Rican tamales); in Kahuku, on the North Shore, stop at the world famous "Shrimp Trucks" and taste delicious Kahuku shrimp; and look for the Shave Ice signs on stores and stands all around the Island, and stop for a cooling snow cone, Hawaiian style. (There are lots of flavors; try a new one every day.) If international fare is part of your travel experience, you will be very busy in Honolulu and Waikiki. whatever you crave, it's probably here. The assortment of flavors is astonishing. And, not surprisingly, seafood is a specialty wherever you go.

Farm to Table
Oahu's innovative Farm to Table cuisine is one of the Island's great attractions. With ideal year-round climate conditions and rich volcanic soil, it is only natural that Oahu is home to an abundance of farms. The countless farmers, chefs, restaurants and consumers dedicated to utilizing O'ahus locally grown products have helped develop the Island's farm to table movement, growing it considerably in recent years and paving the way toward Island-wide sustainability.

KCC farmer's Market
For a food-lover's treat, visit the Kapi'olani Community College Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. There are about 50 vendors, so come hungry and wear your walking shoes.
