Events and Festivals Kauai

Join residents and visitors in seasonal celebrations of Kauai culture and abundance. You'll have fun and learn how to take some of the Island spirit home with you. From crafts to coconuts, Island celebrations are colorful, entertaining and amusing for all ages.

February 16-23, 2013
36th Annual Waimea Town Celebration
Old-fashioned plantation-style fun. Events include a canoe race, and ice cream eating contest, the Captain Cook Fun Run, and ukelele competition, a lei contest, the Paniolo Challenge and continous free entertainment.

March 17-30, 2013
Prince Kuhio Celebration of the Arts
Join us for a week of festivities honoring the birthday and birthplace of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole, one of Hawaii's beloved monarchs. Most events are free, with many activities taking place at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa and at other locales, such as Prince Kuhio Park, Kukui'ula Village, Plantation Gardens and Marriotts Waiohai Beach Club.

16th Annual Royal Pa'ina
The Kauai Historical Society celebrates Hawaii's multi-ethnic heritage. Features great local entertainment and an exquisite meal.

32nd Annual Lei Day Celebration
May Day is Lei Day at Lihu'e's Kauai Museum. Enjoy the vibrant colors and tropical fragrances of the lei on display. Along with a Lei Contest, there will be delicious food and handmade crafts to purchase.

35th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk
This is Hawaii's largest single-day fundraiser, taking place simultaneously on O'ahu, Maui, Hawaii Island and Kauai. Proceeds benefit local charities. Features food, beverages and local entertainment along the three-mile walk.

12th Annual Kauai Polynessian Festival
This four-day event features a Polynesian dance competition and exhibition, cultural workshops, arts & crafts and lots of delicious Island-style food.

24 Annual Banana Poka Round Up
Koke'e Museum annual forest education fair. Features Hawaiian music, environmental exhibitions, forest craft workshops and family activities.

June 2, 2013
25 Annual Taste of Hawaii
This popular culinary event brings together over 50 of Hawaii's innovative chefs who will prepare samples of their signature dishes. Held at Smith's Tropical Paradise in Wailua. Proceeds support Rotary projects all over the world.

31st Annnual Kauai Hula Exhibition
An evening of Polynesian history through dance performed by the dancers of Na Hula 'O Kaohikukapulani at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. Cultural chants, history and food.

July 4
24th Annual Concert in the Sky
Residents and visitors of all ages celebrate July 4th at Lihue's Vidinha Stadium with family fun, great food from Kauai's top hotels and restaurants, continous live entertainment and a spectacular fireworks show set to music.

July 19-28
28th Annual Koloa Plantation Days
Sport events, historic walks, rodeos, block parties, a craft fair, Polynesian dancing and entertainment throughout the week.

August 3-4
Heiva I Kauai-lorana Tahiti
Dance groups from Tahiti, Hawaii, the U.S mainland, Japan and Canada take part in this Tahitian dance competition. Also traditional and contemporary drumming categories.

August 22-25
Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair
Fun for the whole family. Features floral and cooking demonstrations, hula halau exhibition, petting zoo, great Island food and much more. Held at Vidinha Stadium, Lihue.

September 1
The Kauai Marathon
The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon begins in Po'ipu and follows the scenic coastline, offering magnificent views of the Island's picturesque beaches, rugged volcanic peaks and tropical rain forests.

September 22-28
29th Annual Kauai Mokihana Festival
Island-wide events featuring a dance competition for men and women, composers' contest, crafts, festival, lectures and workshops.

October 5-6
17th Annual Coconut Festival
This popular event highlights the cultural, social and historical importance of the coconut. Crafters will be on hand selling their Island products. Come join the fun and participate in coconut games, coconut crafters and coconut contests. Event will be held at Kapa'a Beach Park.

October 12, 2013
24th Annual Eo e Emalani / Alaka'i
At the meadow fronting the Koke'e Natural History Museum. Various hula halau from across the state come to dance. Features a royal procession. Hawaiian entertainment, hula, crafts and demonstrations.

October 17-19, 2013
Na Lima Hana Festival
A 3 day series of educational programs, plus entertainment and lu'au designed to teach the customs, crafts and spirit of Hawai'i's native people. View lauhala weaving, stone carving, use of feathers, lei making and more. Learn about Hawaiian traditions and practices. Located at the Grand Hyatt Kaua'i Resort & Spa.

December 6, 2013
Lights on Rice Parade
Approximately 40 lighted parade entries come from all over the island. This popular event follows the opening ceremony of the Festival of Lights. Over 8,000 people lined Rice Street last year, so ome early for best seating. Starts at 6.30pm.

December 7, 2013
Holiday Hula Christmas Celebration
A Hawaiian Christmas performance by Na Hula 'O Kaohikukapulani. Chants, hula and Christmas melodies. The night includes a silent auction and finger foods.
